Ruffled fabric imitates fish gills, note how the choice of glossy silver fabric compliments the shape of the garment.

The use of layers and the way in which the gown builds out from the waist mimics the body of a fish, full of volume around the middle and drawing tighter towards the feet.

Alexander Mcqueen Spring/Summer Ready to wear Collection,
After looking at points of creative direction on WGSN I then began to look more closely at the collections for spring/summer 2012. My first source of inspiration came from the Alexander McQueen s/s ready to wear collection.
All of the above designs feature a subdued colour pallet of fleshy/metallic tones. The intricate layers of fabric woven with metallic threads as well as the layers of oyster coloured chiffon and handmade embellished lace help to create an ice cold au naturel feeling. The structured silhouettes help to create mythical shapes relating to the theme of underwater.
